Jacob Misiorowski injury update: Brewers optimistic they avoided disaster

Jacob Misiorowskiavoided a major injury, and perhaps won't have to miss any time on the mound at all.

USA TODAY Sports

Milwaukee Brewersmanager Pat Murphytold reportersSaturday, May 2 that he thinks Misiorowski's "going to be fine," some 15 hours after theright hamstring injury the right-hander sufferedthe night before, when he took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of theBrewers' 6-1 victory over the Washington Nationals.

Misiorowski, 24, was overpowering most of the night, striking out eight, retiring the last 11 batters he faced, averaging 101 mph on his fastball in the first inning and throwing 43 pitches between 100 and 103 mph. He did not know he had a no-hitter when he struck out the first batter of the sixth, and then, after throwing one pitch to leadoff hitter James Wood, motioned for a trainer to come out.

That sent a chill through the Brewers dugout – and the industry at large – given Misiorowski's high-velocity repertoire and the inherent risk involved. But the injury did not involve his golden arm.

Instead, he exited due to a barking hamstring, at least for the moment keeping the Brewers' extensive injury list a little lighter. Veteran right-hander Brandon Woodruff was placed on the IL with shoulder inflammation Friday, and the club is also awaiting the return of Quinn Priester, who is on a rehab assignment.

Ballpark vibes, big plays and wild celebrations during 2026 MLB season

Despite the injuries – including the potential loss of key reliever Angel Zerpa to season-ending arm surgery – the Brewers entered Saturday 17-14.

Misiorowski, a 6-7, 200-pounder, leads the major leagues in strikeouts (59 in 38 innings), strikeout percentage (37.2%) and whiff percentage (39.5%). His lone IL stint came in August 2025 due to a left tibia contusion, though he returned shortly thereafter.

The story behind Lady Gaga's next-level 'Devil Wears Prada 2' cameo

Spoiler alert! We're discussing details about a major cameo in “The Devil Wears Prada 2” (in theaters now). Stop reading now if you haven’t seen the movie yet and don’t want to know what happens.

USA TODAY

It’s been the worst-kept secret in Hollywood.

Over the last few weeks,Lady Gagahas sparked feverish speculation that she would make a cameo in “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” In early April, she released the soundtrack’s pulsing lead single “Runway,” a house-pop stomper with rapper Doechii. And early last week, the superstar walked the red carpet at the sequel’s glitzy New York premiere.

Now, we can confirm that Gaga does indeed appear briefly in the new movie as herself.

After a slew of budget cuts, Runway magazine can no longer afford to fly John Legend and his piano to Italy to perform during their show at Milan Fashion Week. At the suggestion of right-hand man Nigel (Stanley Tucci), editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) reluctantly agrees to call in a favor and ask Gaga, even though she says that Gaga is "impossible" and that her last Runway cover nearly "killed me."

Lady Gaga attends "The Devil Wears Prada 2" New York premiere on April 20.

The two women briefly congregate backstage for an amusingly chilly meeting. "I was surprised to hear from you," Gaga dryly tells Miranda. "You don't like me."

"Oh, what an absurd notion," Miranda responds with a forced laugh. "You are such a favorite, and we are so grateful that you're doing this for us."

"Well, of course I'm doing it," Gaga says. "Nigel said I'd never get another cover if I didn't do it."

Miranda leaves the dressing room with a half-hearted "break a leg," and Gaga snaps at her team, "Who let her in here?!"

As models strut down a circular runway, Gaga takes the stage to perform “Shape of a Woman” − one of three new songs that she recorded for “Prada 2,” including end-credits anthem “Glamorous Life.”

Simone Ashley, who plays Miranda’s new assistant Amari, says it was “an amazing honor” to share the screen with both Gaga and Streep backstage at the fashion show.

“I wasn’t actually meant to be in that scene,” Ashley recalls. “I was in my sweats eating an orange when one of the [assistant directors] came in like, ‘We need you in the scene! It’s Gaga day!’” As it turns out, “she is the most wonderful, grounded, kind human being. To get to work with her and Meryl, it was just like, ‘Don’t fall down! Don’t fall down!’ ”

Costume designer Molly Rogers was similarly verklempt after encountering the 16-time Grammy winner.

“I have never felt so fangirl,” Rogers says with a chuckle. “I literally wasn't functioning like my normal self. I mean, I'm in fitting rooms with Meryl and Emily Blunt and Annie Hathaway, but Gaga? She is next level. We went to see her in concert and I was just daunted by her. She was looking at me like, ‘So what’re we going to do?’ And I was like, ‘Whatarewe going to do?!’ ”

Gaga is dressed in archival Versace during her extravagant performance. But because she was in the middle ofher Mayhem Ball tourwhen “Prada 2” filmed last summer, Rogers also wanted to incorporate some elements of her “Mayhem” album era into the movie. As a result, she wears a jewel-encrusted headpiece and carries a cane reminiscent ofher “Abracadabra” video.

“We found that sequined helmet in this crazy rental place in Rome,” Rogers recalls. “We went in there and just raided it, because it was all about giving her a heightened concert moment.”

Orioles calling up top pitching prospect Trey Gibson to start Sunday vs. Yankees, says manager Craig Albernaz

The Baltimore Orioles will reportedly activate top pitching prospect Trey Gibson to start against the New York Yankees on Sunday.

Yahoo Sports

The move hasn’t been officially announced, but Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said the plan was for Gibson to pitch on Sunday, according tothe Baltimore Banner’s Andy Kostka. He’ll be opposed by Max Fried pitching for the Yankees.

The 6-foot-5 right-hander was called up from Triple-A to join the Orioles’ taxi squad of minor leaguers that travels with the major-league club on road trips to provide replacements when necessary.

For Baltimore, a starting pitcher is certainly necessary.Trevor Rogers(illness),Dean Kremer(quad) andZach Eflin(elbow) are on the injured list, among the 12 playersthat are currently sidelined for the Orioles.

Gibson, 23, is ranked as Baltimore’s No. 3 prospectby MLB.comandBaseball America. He signed with the Orioles as an undrafted free agent in 2023 out of Liberty University and has steadily progressed through the minor-league system.

From MLB.com:

“Gibson has a power-pitcher build and power-pitcher stuff. He’s a 6-foot-5, 240-pound right-hander with a four-seamer that he can rev into the high 90s, a two-seamer to generate ground balls and an array of secondary offerings designed to miss bats in abundance.

“He throws two different sliders and an above-average curveball, both in the low-to-mid 80s, as well as a cutter and developing changeup. He’s added velocity and proven durable since entering pro ball, cutting his walk rate as he’s climbed to the upper levels.”

In starts for Triple-A Norfolk this season, Gibson has a 4.01 ERA in six starts with 25 strikeouts and 12 walks in 24 2/3 innings. He was already scheduled to start on Sunday, so will be on his normal turn in the rotation.

The Orioles went into Saturday’s matchup versus the Yankees (21-11) with a 15-17 record, six gamesout of first placein the AL East.

Canada FIFA Congress Soccer

Iran’s top soccer official Mehdi Taj said on Friday “we have many issues to discuss” on his return home fromCanada where he failedto attendFIFA’s annual congressheld on Thursday in Vancouver.

FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström has invited an Iranian delegation to its headquarters by a May 20 deadline, a person familiar with the proposal told The Associated Press on Friday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing sensitivity of the issue.

That target date in Zurich is three weeks beforethe Iran squadis due in the U.S., staying at a training base in Tucson, Arizona, to prepare for three group games in Inglewood, California and Seattle.

“Our position is that we will soon have a meeting with FIFA,” Taj told Iranian media on Friday.

Iran's difficult road to World Cup

Iran is an Asian soccer power but its ability and willingness to come to the World Cup has been questioned since the U.S. and Israel launched military attacks on Feb. 28. The tournament is being co-hosted by Canada and Mexico,

On Thursday, FIFA President Gianni Infantino opened his keynote speech to global soccer leaders — with only Iran missing of the 211 member federations — insisting again thatIran will come and playas scheduled in the U.S.

At the White House later Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed his support for Iran’s team, adding: “If Gianni said it, I’m OK.”

Trump and Infantino have closely alliedover the World Cup preparations which has challenges, beyond Iran with fans from several African countries, overgranting entry visasand security concerns.

Canada arrival issue

Taj and two more Iran officials had issues this week on landing in Toronto en route to Vancouver where they were expected at the FIFA annual meeting.

Taj, who is also a vice president of Asia’s soccer body, detailed on Friday the problems with Canadian authorities though he said he was not deported.

“In Canada they asked us, ‘Are you members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps?’ We told them, ‘In Iran, 90 million of us are IRGC,’” Taj was reported as saying in Iranian media.

After being detained for two hours at Toronto airport, the Iran soccer delegation which had arrived from Istanbul was told it could continue the journey.

“There was some discussion and he said, ‘It’s up to you,’ and then we decided as a group to go back” to Istanbul, Taj said. “They did not officially deport us, there is nothing labeled as deportation in our file, but in practice it was like that.”

Taj had a valid visa to enter Canada after he wasdenied one by the U.S.to attend the World Cup draw in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 5. At that event, Infantino presented Trump with thefirst FIFA Peace Prize.

Iran's World Cup games

Iran has World Cup group games against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt, respectively, from June 15-26. The first two games are at the NFL stadium of the Los Angeles Rams and the third is at the Seattle Seahawks’ stadium.

If Iran advances as runner-up in its group, the team could face the United States in the round of 32 at the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium on July 3.

The Iranian soccer league shut down after the war started and is not due to resume before the World Cup. The squad played two warmup games in March at a training camp in Antalya, Turkey, where it could return this month to prepare for the World Cup that opens on June 11.

The British monarch made a solo stop at an urban farm in Harlem, arriving around 2 p.m. local time on Wednesday, April 29, and was greeted by Tony Hillery, founder and chief executive of Harlem Grown, a nonprofit that operates urban farms to provide youth development programming. There, he was shown by Harlem Grown members and schoolchildren from Thurgood Marshall Lower Academy around the raised beds, greenhouse, tool shed, composting station, chicken coops, bee hives and more in the middle of a city block.

At one point, one of the students had a compliment for the King: "I like your hair," the child said.

King Charles, 77, was enthusiastic about feeding chickens — after all, he tends to the animals back in the U.K., and his flock lives in acoop dubbed Cluckingham Palace. Hillery had to coax the monarch away from the chickens to continue the tour.

Among the fifth and final season’s many twists and turns was the reveal thatJohn had been killedby hitmen as part of a murder-for-hire plot coordinated by Jamie’s (Wes Bentley) girlfriend, Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri).

Speaking withThe Hollywood Reporterafter John’s shocking death,Yellowstonedirector and cinematographer Christina Alexandra Voros praised creator Taylor Sheridan’s decision to center the season around the emotional aftermath of his passing rather than the act.

“What’s interesting about birth and death is not the birth and death itself, but the way it affects us as people,” she said at the time. “To me, I think that was the driving force in telling the story this way. He’s asked, ‘How does everybody else survive and what do they do?’ And that’s where the mystery is. That is where the unraveling is. That is where the story is.”
